From 18 September 2023 to 13 January 2024, the MuMo x Centre Pompidou will be touring the East of France (Ardennes, Aube, Haute-Marne, Meuse and Vosges) to present the exhibition The Caravan of The Weird. Some 8,500 visitors are expected to come.

"Beauty is always bizarre [...] It always contains a bit of strangeness, a naive, unintentional, unconscious strangeness, and it is this strangeness that makes it particularly beautiful" - Charles Baudelaire, Curiosités esthétiques, The Universal Exhibition of 1855, 1868

Drawing on some fifteen works from the collection of the Centre Pompidou - Musée Nationale d'Art Moderne, Europe's richest collection of modern and contemporary art, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey to the heart of the weird and wacky.

‍Visitors will meet curious characters and fantastic animals drawn from myths and legends, and discover strange landscapes straight out of the artists' imaginations.

Along the way, children and adults alike will be able to take advantage of the tours and creative workshops on offer to explore the artists' astonishing and disconcerting worlds.

The Tour:

  • From 18 to 29/09 then from 30/10 to 03/11: Department of Vosges (88)
  • From 02 to 08/10: Commune of Marseille (13)
  • From 10 to 27/10: Department of Ardennes (08)
  • From 06 to 17/11 then from 02 to 06/01: Department of Meuse (55)
  • From 20/11 to 08/12: Department of Aube (10)
  • From 11 to 29/12: Department of Haute-Marne (52)
  • From 09 to 13/01: Commune of Massy (91)

From 2 to 8 October, the museum-truck will be making a special trip to Marseille.

Throughout the week, the museum-truck's mediators will be welcoming school groups and associations for visits and artistic workshops based around the works. The museum-truck will then be open to the general public free of charge over the weekend (7 and 8 October) from 10am to 5pm, so that everyone can discover the exhibition and its artworks!
