Description of the work

The work produced by Diane Cescutti as part of the Art Explora X Artagon residency reflects the artist's research into the intertwined history of textiles and aerospace technologies. It takes as its starting point the extraordinary diversity of materials produced by industry, diverting their application to take them out of the technical sphere in which they are confined.
Considering them first and foremost for their aesthetic potential, the artist creates her sculptural fabric using quilting, a quilting technique that gives relief to patterned fabric. Like an unfurled textile color chart, her installation allows us to discover mylar, a textile used in the design of spacesuits. A moiré patchwork made up of a shiny, padded woven structure, her piece comes to life through sewing and draping.
