Antiprincesses – Carolina Beatriz Ângelo is part of the Antiprincesses cycle by Cláudia Gaiolas, which revisits historical female figures as alternative role models for children.
Focusing on the life of physician and feminist Carolina Beatriz Ângelo, the first woman to vote in Portugal in 1911, the performance brings together biography and historical context through an accessible and engaging theatrical language.
Blending humour, storytelling and proximity with the audience, the piece reflects on rights, freedom and civic participation. It invites young audiences to question gender stereotypes and to recognise their own potential for individual and collective transformation.
Cláudia Gaiolas
Cláudia Gaiolas is a theatre maker and performer trained at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School. She has developed an extensive body of work across theatre, performance and creation for young audiences.
A founding member of Teatro Praga, she has collaborated with numerous artists and companies in Portugal and internationally. Since 2018, she has been developing the Antiprincesses cycle, a series of performances centred on historical female figures, promoting diversity, equality and critical thinking in younger audiences.
