DJ Set - Awir Leon
DJ Set spanning alternative hip-hop, experimental electronic music, and soulful songwriting, Awir Leon is a musician and composer who made a name for himself in music after a career as a dancer, notably with Emanuel Gat. This dual background gives his music a singularly physical sense of rhythm. For the past ten years, Awir has been composing the music for Amala Dianor's shows.

The set will unfold as a sonic journey through contemporary underground cultures: from the South African townships with pantsula to the clubs of Kinshasa with ndombolo, by way of Jamaican dancehall, krump and voguing born in the streets and ballrooms of United States and Ivorian coupé-décalé. So many styles that Awir weaves together live, building a musical narrative in which rhythms answer one another from one continent to the next.
Awir Leon
A multidisciplinary artist rooted in electronic soul, Awir is best known for his introspective ballads reminiscent of Frank Ocean, Thom Yorke, or James Blake. However, he has also drawn inspiration and freedom from club music and cultures. As a dancer himself, music and movement are one and the same to him, and he expresses this through a rhythmic exploration that challenges the listener, whether in his productions or DJ sets. Beyond the constraints of musical genres, Awir effortlessly transitions from garage to batida, grime to amapiano, and bass to afrotronic, with the sole aim of making the entire room sweat.
