Performance - G.R.O.O.V.E.; excerpts, Bintou Dembélé
G.R.O.O.V.E. is a promenade performance infused with the artistic approach of Bintou Dembélé. Screenings of short films about marginalized, subversive cultures, along with performances, take over the inviting space. Guided by the voice of Célia Kameni, the audience is invited to immerse themselves in the guitar and lap steel of Charles Amblard, and to follow. Together, they transform the space, inviting you to join them and celebrate.

Bintou Dembélé
BINTOU DEMBÉLÉ is a leading figure of the hip hop movement in France. She began her career with pioneering groups such as Aktuel Force, Ykanji (which she co-founded), Compagnie Käfig, and Mouv’ at the Théâtre Contemporain de la Danse in Paris. In 2002, she founded Compagnie Rualité, through which she explores street dance as a language of ritual, rhythm, and memory—examining questions of heritage, resistance, and the legacies of colonial history. Dembélé’s choreography for Jean-Philippe Rameau’s ‘Les Indes Galantes’ at the Paris Opéra received international acclaim for bringing krump and hip hop into the classical canon. She has also created six original works with Rualité that have toured widely across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Dembélé is currently an associate artist at Ateliers Médicis (Clichy-sous-Bois / Montfermeil), Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh), and Columbia University’s Reid Hall (Paris).
