Gipsy Pigs Company

The Cie Gipsy Pigs has proudly claimed its place in the shape-shifting world of Street Arts since 1998, working in Brass Band form as a popular art form that refuses to turn in on itself. Neither a drum/brass corps, nor a wind orchestra, nor a carnival banda, nor a theater company, but rather a contemporary sum of all of these. An appetite for the unpredictability of the street, for live theatrical reaction, for the closest possible contact with the audience, self-mockery, absurdist humor, and the sheer pleasure of showing off are the leitmotifs of the Cie.

Trained and experienced in musical-theatrical performances in public spaces, four brass band members from the company carry on these reinvented traditions with *FISSA PAPA*, seeking through this lighthearted artistic project to emphasize a spirit of celebration, sharing, and dancing—and the idea of “living together”—through their choice of music: cumbias and other Latin American melodies, popular and old-fashioned songs from the French repertoire and beyond—reinterpreted in unexpected ways or even modernized—as well as through the form, the story, and the relationships between the characters portrayed by the musicians (here referred to as “musi-comico-medians”).
