Guitar hero Justin Adams, producer of Tinariwen, Lo'Jo, and Rachid Taha, lover of North African groove, guitarist for Robert Plant in the group Sensational Space Shifters, and a world music traveler as far as the banks of the Niger River, meets Mauro Durante, violinist and percussionist from southern Italy. Son of Daniele Durante, founder of the Canzioniere Grecanico Salentino ensemble, he now leads the septet perpetuating the taranta, a cousin of the Neapolitan tarantella and a healing ritual.
Mauro Durante explains that in the past, " the pizzica was played on the tambourine and violin to cure people who, bitten by a tarantula, fell into a lethargic state—mostly women, victims of spiders while harvesting tobacco leaves. Making them dance to the frenetic rhythm of the pizzica, until they collapsed from exhaustion, brought them back to life." For this concert, Mohamed Errebea, playing the guembri, the Gnawa lute, will join the two musicians, thus creating a connection with the Maghreb and African world.
