Concert Meryem Koufi and Juan Carmona (guest by Alain Weber)

Flamenco's history is rooted in the memory of a harmonious Andalusia, where the beauty of nature and the stars, nourished by the wisdom of the Ancients and ancient Arabic poetry, coexisted with Visigothic, Moorish, Jewish, Christian, and Amazigh cultures. Its Gypsy heritage also connects it to an intense and proud music. Andalusia, perhaps even more than a symbol of a civilization founded on the meeting of the three monotheistic religions, symbolizes an idyllic golden age between East and West, far removed from the alarming ecological context of today's Mediterranean.

Juan Carmona

After his family emigrated from North Africa to France, young Juan headed for Spain to reconnect with his roots. After rubbing shoulders with some of the greatest names in flamenco, such as Joaquín Grilo and Chano Domínguez, he went on to become one of the world's great masters of the flamenco guitar. A self-taught musician, he writes his music with his memory, his ears, his heart and his passion, surrounded by great jazz artists such as Larry Coryell and Marcus Miller, as well as great traditional musicians such as L. Subramaniam and Naseer Shamma.

Meryem Koufi

Meryem Koufi, a young composer, singer and instrumentalist, blends traditional "cante jondo" and Arabo-Andalusian music. She collaborated with one of the great singers of Algerian Andalusia, Beihdja Rahal, and trained at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Séville with Master Cantaor Miguel Ortega. Between Arles and Andalusia, Meryem Koufi directs several creations, from a tribute to Federico Garcia, to "Gharnata", "Darb Al Harir", or her latest creation "Avec Elles/Con Ellas", a tribute to the poetesses of the Hispanic world at the beginning of the 20th century.
