“A voice rises from the heights of a shore; It has arrived. This performed lecture is a drift between water and errancy, an echo of submerged borders and reconfigured maps. Between stories, speculations, and geological murmurs, another kind of crossing is weaved, one that is within us, where control seeps into our pores.”

Djebel al-Qāf, Is it reachable? is a lecture-performance by Ghyzlène Boukaïla, taking place in an in situ installation, somewhere between a waiting room and a forgotten border checkpoint. In this suspended zone, fragments accumulate around the plausible existence of a submerged mountain. Rooted in the early strata of the film project Inner Sea Desire, the performance follows the obsession of a smuggler with an invisible underwater mountain that echoes Djebel al-Qāf, the mythical threshold of the world in Islamic cosmology: unreachable, revelatory, and initiatory.

In addition to the lecture-performance, Ghyzlène Boukaïla’s installation is visible between 31 October and 2 November in the framework of the Open Studios of Art Explora Festival’s residency programme.
