Address

In front of the Art Explora museum boat, Quai de Bouregreg, Rabat, Morocco

The Lâabat group is made up of women from Benslimane, a town some 50 km north of Casablanca. For the dance, the women borrowed the "lqâada" barrel dance, which uses half a barrel originally used as a basin for washing wool. The dance imitates the trampling of wool during washing, adding a musical rhythm to these foot movements, with steps and claps reminiscent of fado or flamenco. The women's songs are texts of complaint or lament, often of broken love or lament evoking the separation from one's loved ones.

The great Chilean-born dancer Florencia Oz, a member of Rafaela Carrasco's company and then David Coria's, is also pursuing a solo career that has won her prizes at several competitions and festivals.

She will be performing with the Lâabat ensemble.
