Exhibition - UNDERTOW
The term “undertow” refers to the underwater current that forms beneath the water’s surface and flows in the opposite direction of the current visible at the surface. While sailing with the current is generally the easiest, back currents, eddies, and rip currents all pose potential dangers during the voyage.

How can we discuss the Mediterranean Sea and its region without delving into the depths of human odysseys? This route has, throughout history, been a passageway—a corridor of expansion, colonization, and exile. Its waters have borne witness to the struggles of countless people forced to leave their homes in search of refuge from conflicts, wars, persecution, and economic hardship.
As we navigate the complexities of the relationships between those who welcome and those who are welcomed, we critically examine power dynamics, privileges, and responsibilities. The Mediterranean Sea is the world’s largest open-air cemetery, and the stories that intersect and intertwine along its shores are tales of survival and resilience.
