The restrictions prohibit the harvesting of artichoke akkoub and za'atar (thyme) and have led to fines and prosecutions against hundreds of people caught harvesting these indigenous plants. For Palestinians, these laws further isolate them from their land, while Israeli state representatives insist on their scientific knowledge and duty to protect. Foragers captures the love, joy and knowledge inherited from tradition, as well as their resistance to the prohibition law. By reframing the terms and limits of conservation, the film raises questions about the politics of extinction, i.e. who determines what disappears and what stays alive.

Amanda Khalil

She works as an independent curator between Paris, Beirut and Rio de Janeiro. She is the founder of the curatorial platform TAP (Temporary Art Platform), dedicated to contextual, public and social practices in contemporary art. He has organized exhibitions in renowned spaces such as the CENTQUATRE PARIS, the Paço Imperial in Rio de Janeiro and the Institut Français in Beirut. For the Art Explora festival, he organized with Danielle Makhoul "Undertow" and a programme of artists' films that illustrate current socio-political reality, addressing the question of hospitality and the tensions in relations between hosts and guests deriving from migratory routes.

Jumana Manna

Jumana Manna is a visual artist and filmmaker. Her work explores how power is articulated, focusing on the body, land and materiality in relation to colonial legacies and histories of place. Through sculpture, film and sometimes writing, Manna addresses the paradoxes of curatorial practices, particularly in the fields of architecture, agriculture and law. Her practice considers the tension between modernist traditions of categorization and conservation and the indiscipline of ruin, life and its regeneration. Jumana grew up in Jerusalem and lives in Berlin.
