Dance Performance - "Prélude," by Kader Attou

Performance
For All Ages

Prélude unleashes a vital breath at the heart of public space. A raw and fraternal hip-hop dance piece where struggle, momentum and breath come together. Nine dancers from Accrorap Company, under the direction of choreographer Kéader Attou, embody the energy of a humanity standing tall, balancing resilience and the joy of sharing, to the electro-acoustic music of Romain Dubois.

Prélude is born from a breath: the first cry, the impulse of life itself. In this work, Kader Attou revisits his own journey—his childhood in the suburbs of Lyon, his discovery of boxing, the beauty of movement, and the empowering force of hip-hop as a space for self-expression and emancipation. He explores the intimate connection between dance, music and breathing, that shared pulse which binds people together.

Conceived for public spaces, Prélude Out reaches out to audiences who do not necessarily step through the doors of a theatre. Concentrated and energetic, this version offers a raw, collective form of dance that is accessible to all. Driven by the electro-acoustic music of Romain Dubois, the piece rises from silence into an increasing intensity, like a struggle that must be carried through to the end.

The nine dancers embody a humanity under tension: bodies in contact, breaths, impulses and acts of resistance. The choreography becomes a metaphor for struggle—physical, poetic and fraternal—celebrating the power of movement and the joy of immediate shared experience.

Accrorap Company, directed by Kader Attou—dancer, choreographer and one of the leading figures of hip-hop dance in France—has been based since 2022 at Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille.
