LAVRAR O MAR Cultural Cooperative (CRL), directed by Madalena Victorino and Giacomo Scalisi, was founded in 2014 under the name COSANOSTRA Cultural Cooperative, which was later changed to its current name. Its mission is centered on the development of artistic and cultural projects in Portugal.

Based in Aljezur, LAVRAR O MAR focuses on contemporary performing arts practice and on how these relate to different social contexts, territories, and cultural realities. For this reason, the artistic and cultural projects it develops take on different forms, scales, and durations. The cooperative has worked primarily in Portugal, but also in Australia, Italy, and Cape Verde.
