Brazil has an ancient, deep, almost sacred relationship with the sea. The ocean is not just a landscape: it is a presence, a force, a mother. In Afro-Brazilian beliefs, this mother has a name: Yemanjá, queen of the waters, protector of fishermen, guardian of the waves and of destinies.

Every New Year’s Eve, as the sun sets on December 31, thousands of hands place flowers on the sea. A simple gesture, yet one filled with hope: offering Yemanjá the most beautiful things we have, so that she may carry away our sorrows and bring back peace.

This evocation of Brazil begins with this ritual. A gentle dance, carried by the murmur of the waves, where flowers become colorful prayers gliding across the water like promises.

Then comes Yemanjá herself. In a luminous solo, she appears: majestic, shrouded in blue, woman of the ocean, mother of the world. Her gestures undulate like the tides, her arms trace the curves of the waves, and every movement speaks of the sea’s quiet power.

Finally, joy bursts forth. The sand becomes a stage, the beaches light up, and everyone dances dressed in white and silver—colors of peace and light, colors offered to Yemanjá. It’s samba by the sea: a whirlwind of laughter and freedom, a vibrant tribute to the queen of the waters.

Dans’Art Brasil is a cultural association based in Le Havre, dedicated to promoting and celebrating dance in all its forms. It offers introductory dance classes, classical ballet, modern jazz, and Brazilian folk dances, allowing everyone—children, teens, and adults—to discover an accessible, joyful, and structured artistic practice.

The association also develops choreographic projects, educational workshops, and performances that highlight the richness of Brazil’s rhythms and physical expressions.

Artistic direction is provided by Anette Leporq, a state-certified teacher, choreographer, and artistic director. Her work combines technical rigor, creativity, and a supportive teaching approach, offering students a dynamic and inspiring learning environment.
