Open-air cinema: Emilija Škarnulytė
Screening of the film 'Sunken Cities' by Emilija Škarnulytė, 2021, 9 min, Courtesy of the artist.
Set 10,000 years in the future, Sunken Cities ' archeological mermaid dives into the depths of the Gulf of Naples and delves into the past (our present). Baia - an ancient Roman city on the north-western shore of the Gulf of Naples, now underwater. Beneath the waves, the hedonistic seaside resort of Baia reveals itself as the mermaid swims: sunken corridors, strange scaffolding, sculptural figures of destroyed empires, mosaics on the seabed - Roman ruins taken by the sea due to local volcanic activity.
