res_ (formerly res_és_nostre) is a sound art duo working at the intersection of electronic music, language, and visual arts through a multidisciplinary, research-based practice. Their work focuses on sound as cultural, historical, and political material, exploring how listening, memory, and context structure the musical experience.
For Art Explora, res_ presents a live performance that explores new forms of sound creation and composition based on samples from medieval Catalan choirs. The project begins with polyphonic vocal archives, characterized by dense layers of human voices, which are fragmented, reconfigured, and processed electronically. By manipulating these choral voices, the duo generates deeply recognizable sound textures, traditionally associated with liturgical or historical contexts, and transposes them into a contemporary space of electronic music and performance. The compositions function not only as standalone electronic pieces, but are also designed to be reinterpreted live by a choir, establishing a lively dialogue between archives, technology, and the collective body.
The work of res_ delves transversally into the politics of sound—its authorship, circulation, and ecological implications—and evolves from previous projects based on sampling, voice, and field recordings. In 2025, they participated in the Venice Music Biennale with a performance focused on underwater soundscapes of the Venetian environment, highlighting noise pollution as a contemporary environmental emergency. This narrative piece combined processed ambient audio, voice, and melody to construct a hybrid format between experimental sound and a pop-like sensibility, reaffirming the duo's interest in the fluidity of meaning and the potential of sound as an artistic and activist medium.
Their first full-length album, released by Hivern Discs, oscillated between musical and textual experimentation, improvisation, poetic writing, and electronic composition, blurring the boundaries between spoken language and sonic texture. They are currently working on their second album, focused on exploring song structures, voice, and melody, which is scheduled for release next year. The project has been developed through artistic residencies and collaborative research in contexts that prioritize situated work and listening, such as the Konvent de Berga and the Casa d’Artistes d’Es Far Cultural (Menorca). In these spaces, res_ has explored the relationship between territory, sound archive, and performance. Their work has been—and will be—presented at the Venice Music Biennale, MiRA Festival, De School (Amsterdam), Mercat de Música Viva de Vic, and Poesia i +, among others.
