Crossing the Blue Bridge is a film by Selma Selman that revisits her mother’s memories of the war in Bihać in 1994. Through layered storytelling, the film weaves together the socio-political and cultural contexts Selman navigates as an artist, exploring her Roma origins in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina while addressing broader issues affecting Romani communities worldwide. The film offers a deep reflection on identity, resilience, and collective memory.

Selma Selman

Selma Selman is a Roma artist and performer whose work explores themes of identity, migration, and marginalization. Through performance, video, and installation, Selman challenges stereotypes and questions societal perceptions of race, gender, and culture. Her practice often addresses the intersectionality of being a Roma woman in a world shaped by systemic discrimination.

Selman’s work has been presented internationally, pushing for a deeper understanding of identity and inclusion. At home, in Bosnia, she is the founder of Marš u Školu (Get the Heck to School), an initiative supporting Roma girls’ education.
