Learning to Unlearn: a workshop to reimagine Paper Waste 

In this workshop, participants were invited to transform paper waste that carries the potential for transformation: written upon, drawn upon, folded, torn, and ultimately, recycled to begin again. The whole process is an act of deconstruction and reconstruction, recognizing our own place in nature’s rhythm.

The workshop offered a creative space giving the opportunity to each participant and especially children, to explore the process, understand the importance of recycling and sustainability, discover the idea of “learning to unlearn” by transforming waste into something valuable, collaborate with others, experiment with textures, forms, colors, technics, and finally create a useful and beautiful final product out of waste.

Ilir Kaso

Ilir Kaso was born in 1982 in Përmet, Albania. He graduated in Graphic Arts at the Academy of Arts in Tirana in 2005. Kaso is a multimedia artist refining visual and conceptual vocabulary through drawing, painting, photography, video art, animation and installation. 

His creative work is exhibited in: MuCem Museum, Marseille, France - Ludwig Museum, Budapest, Hungary / National Art Gallery, Prishtina, Kosovo / Neurotitan Gallery, Berlin, Germany / Contemporary Art Salon at the Historical Museum, Tirana, Albania / Magazzino del sale nr.3, Venice, Italy / Pino Pascali Museum, Polignano a Mare, Italy / Modern Museum, Rijeka, Croatia / National Gallery of Art, Cetinje, Montenegro / Beton Gallery7, Athens, Greece / Local-int, Biel -Bienn, Switzerland / Riehen, Basel, Switzerland, etc...

His work has been awarded with:

• Public Award 'DokuTIFF' 2015
• First Prize for Animated Film at the Albanian Film Festival 2012
• Award for best picture at the “Anifest ROZAFA” (2010)

• Award 'AMC 'as Contemporary Artist of 2007
• Special Diploma in style and graphic experimentation' Balkanima '2005

He is the founder of Trekëndor, Art and Creativity Center based in Tirana, founded in 2020, which aims to focus on education through contemporary art, with a special focus on research and methodology. 

Ilir Kaso is the father of two daughters, lives in Tirana, and works as a lecturer at the University of Arts since 2005.
