In the depths
The proposal is entitled In the Depths and takes the form of a performative lecture. It begins with the real history of the Atlantic as a space of violence and memory: the slave trade, ports with a Black presence in Spain (Barcelona, Seville, Cadiz), and how this past has been silenced or fragmented. From there, it takes a creative leap into the realm of the imaginary: how artists such as Drexciya have paved the way for thinking about the ocean not only as a tomb, but also as an archive, as a place of possibilities and future.

The proposal is entitled In the Depths and takes the form of a performative lecture. It begins with the real history of the Atlantic as a space of violence and memory: the slave trade, ports marked by a Black presence in the Spanish state (Barcelona, Seville, Cadiz), and the way in which this past has been silenced or fragmented. From there, it takes a creative leap into the realm of the imaginary: how artists such as Drexciya paved the way for thinking about the ocean not only as a tomb, but also as an archive, a place of possibilities and future.
The narrative is accompanied by images, projections, sounds (underwater textures, music, atmospheres), and moments of reading or recitation. This is not a traditional lecture: it is a narrative and sensory journey where history, music, thought, and Afrofuturism intersect, concluding with Ken's personal reflections on memory, imagination, and ways of rewriting what has not been passed down to us. The idea is for the audience to listen, see, and feel, rather than simply receive information.

Ken Province is a cultural researcher, exhibition curator, and interdisciplinary creator. He directs The Lab_Oratory, a project that combines a specialized bookstore, a think tank, and an artistic experimentation space. His practice lies at the intersection of Black history, Afrofuturism, music, and contemporary oral tradition, with a particular interest in the intersections between archives, sound, and narrative.
He has developed performative lectures, listening clubs, and curatorial projects that challenge official narratives and propose new ways of accessing knowledge, moving away from traditional academic formats. His approach is narrative, sensory, and political, considering culture as a living tool.
