Adrasha’s project mebrat / መብራት explores the figure of the lighthouse as a symbol of guidance and border, translating its pulses of light into rhythms. Through field recordings, visual poetry, and personal archives, she articulates soundscapes that address displacement, communication, and belonging from a political and sensory perspective.

mebrat / መብራት is articulated around the figure of the lighthouse as a symbolic and material device of orientation, surveillance and limit. The lighthouse appears not only as a source of guiding light, but also as a marker of borders—geographical, political, and emotional—that separate and connect territories, bodies, and memories. Starting from this image, the project investigates how its light pulses can be translated and reimagined as sound rhythms, establishing a dialogue between light, time and listening. Through the use of field recordings, visual poetry, and personal archives, she constructs soundscapes that function as spaces of resonance where experiences of displacement, migration, and transit converge. These materials, both documentary and intimate, allow her to explore communication not only as a transmission of information, but as a sensitive gesture loaded with silences, interferences and affects.

The project addresses the notion of belonging from a political and sensory perspective, questioning who is guided, who is left out of the light, and what narratives are activated at the margins. mebrat / መብራት thus proposes an attentive listening to the territories and their stories, where sound becomes a tool to think about borders, links and the possibilities of orientation in contexts of instability and continuous movement.

Adrasha

Adrasha is an Ethiopian multidisciplinary artist based in Barcelona. Her career began as a dancer in Addis Ababa, immersed in the traditional sounds of East Africa and the urban music heard in the different neighborhoods of the city. This experience fueled his curiosity to work on this sonic fusion through an experimental lens. This, in turn, paved the way to musical curation, where Adrasha began mixing club genres such as Gqom and Singeli and creating listening spaces with Ethio-Jazz selections. Focused on exploring underground sounds - particularly contemporary club music from the African continent and its diaspora - Adrasha's work seeks to create a dialogue between hybrid sound expressions such as Afro-punk, Gqom and Future Dancehall and current experimental electronic music. In his performances, this translates into a rhythm kinetic and a constant dynamic energy. His approach is also based on his training in International Relations, which investigates how different cultures, through creative initiatives, can legitimize and stabilize political systems. Last year, Adrasha performed in Addis Ababa, Milan, Brussels and Paris. She is a regular artist at Jokkoo Collective events in Barcelona and debuted at Primavera Sound BCN 2024. The Barcelona artist also presents a bi-monthly show called No Address on Oroko Radio and has been invited to do mixes on Rinse FM, Radio Raheem and Radio Alhara.
