The Senegalese community in Barcelona is one of the largest from sub-Saharan Africa, so it makes sense that groups like this emerge and flourish. Beyond a musical practice and a profession that helps them survive in a foreign land, sabar is a space for encounter and dialogue. Sabar patterns sound like phrases, and their incredible rhythmic variety evokes conversations with a dynamism and complexity rarely found in other styles. Dance is a fundamental part, as the rhythmic pulses feed off it and vice versa. When these two elements come together, their resonance enters another dimension.
