In a DJ set that merges rhythmic intensity with sonic imagination, Nídia channels the vibrant energy of kuduro, contemporary electronic music, and multiple global influences to create an immersive and transformative experience. Her approach—both physical and conceptual—articulates sound, identity, and politics, shaping a space where body and listening meet in constant tension and release.
Between sharp beats, dense textures, and moments of suspension, her sonic universe reveals a distinctive language, developed through a singular trajectory within the international electronic scene. In this context, the DJ set emerges as a space of creation and reinvention, where each transition contributes to a compelling and dynamic narrative.
The experience is expanded by a video projection of an original drawing by JAS, unfolding in direct dialogue with the music and adding an organic, ever-changing visual dimension. Lines, shapes, and visual rhythms accompany and challenge the sound, creating an expanded sensory field where image and music continuously intertwine.
The DJ programme at the Art Explora Festival is curated by Filho Único.

Nídia is an internationally acclaimed Afro-Portuguese producer and DJ from Vale da Amoreira, on Lisbon’s South Bank. As part of the Príncipe label and artistic collective, she has played a key role in introducing a progressive aesthetic and ethic to the contemporary alternative dance scene, and to kuduro culture in particular. Her discography includes standout albums such as Nídia É Má, Nídia É Fudida (2017), named one of the year’s best electronic releases by Rolling Stone, and 95 MINDJERES (2023), inspired by the crucial role of women fighters in the PAIGC struggle for Guinea-Bissau’s independence from Portuguese colonial rule during the 1960s and 1970s.
Throughout her career, she has also taken on remix commissions for artists including Kelela, Yaeji, Elza Soares, Perfume Genius, and Sudan Archives, and co-produced tracks on the last two albums by alternative pop artist Fever Ray.
In 2024, she joined forces with avant-garde percussionist Valentina Magaletti, resulting in Estradas, released by the Paris-based label Latency. The record was widely acclaimed as one of the year’s best by publications such as Resident Advisor, Pitchfork, and Artforum.
Only Child
Filho Único is a cultural association founded in Lisbon in 2007. It is an independent entity that does not receive annual funding or financial support from state mechanisms. It develops its active presence in Lisbon and on the international circuit through the aesthetic and critical approaches of its programming, co-productions, and the promotion of concerts, installations, and music events, as well as through the cooperative booking and representation of musicians.
Over the years, its role has been recognized in taking on an ever-unassured challenge: continuously reimagining the understanding of music—not limited by technique, data, or logic, but rather as expression and dynamic force, relational and liberating, present in lived experience, intergenerational knowledge, and enduring connections between body, land, and history.
