Postcards from the museum of me

Workshop
Children

In this interactive workshop, participants will become both artists and curators as they design their very own “Museum of Me.” Using a variety of provided materials, each participant will explore his/her personal history, identity, and imagination to create exhibitions that reflect who they are and what matters most to them. Through drawing, collage, writing, and object-making, participants will craft artifacts and displays that capture memories, dreams, and defining moments. The workshop is based on Eleni Geroulanou book “Nikiforos explores emotions, based on the Cycladic figurines.

This interactive "Museum of Me" workshop is designed to engage participants as both artists and curators, guiding them through a creative process to express their personal history, identity, and imagination. Using a variety of provided materials, participants design their own exhibitions—essentially creating a miniature museum representing who they are and what matters most to them.

Activities include drawing, collage, writing, and object-making, allowing participants to craft unique artifacts and displays that capture their memories, dreams, and defining moments. The process encourages reflection on personal experiences and emotions, inspired by Eleni Geroulanou’s book "Nikiforos explores emotions," which is grounded in the symbolism of Cycladic figurines. These figurines, with their minimalist and evocative forms, help stimulate exploration of feelings and identity.

Participants learn to assemble their chosen materials into meaningful compositions, adapting found or base objects like boxes or frames as the structure of their museum. Throughout, they contemplate questions such as what aspects of themselves they want to communicate, what stories their exhibits tell, and how the objects interact with one another to create dialogue. Teachers or facilitators often support by prompting brainstorming, guiding composition principles, and encouraging self-reflection through written statements and group critiques.

Ultimately, the workshop nurtures self-expression, introspection, and creativity, providing a platform for participants to explore and present their identities visually and narratively through a personalized “museum” exhibition.
