When dance brings an entire city together: Experience 1 km of dance

How can dance bring a whole region together and set it abuzz? Discover the second episode of our series “Stories from the European Award.” Featuring past winners of the Art Explora European “ Award ” — Académie des beaux-arts — this series explores how their projects take on a new dimension thanks to the Award.

This new episode takes us to Orléans to experience “1 km of Dance.” This festive, free event was conceived by the National Dance Center. It is organized locally by the National Choreographic Center of Orléans. For one day, dance steps out of its usual venues to take over the city. Performances are interspersed with introductory workshops and participatory projects. Professional and amateur artists come together with the city’s residents, united by a shared desire: to dance together.

The accounts from the teams and participants take us right to the heart of this year’s event in Orléans. They describe a grand community celebration where generations and cultures come together, and dance becomes a way to share one’s own style and discover that of others.
