Discover Elena Mazzi in this new episode of our series In The Eyes Of. The Italian visual artist in residence in Rijeka as part of the Art Explora Cross Residency Program, continues her research on ports and infrastructures, connected to her PhD thesis on the Polar Silk Road. Her work examines how geography shapes our lives, as well as the political and social issues that arise from it.

In Rijeka, an active port city, Elena observes the movement of cargo in the port, which informs her reflection on the emergence of new global trade routes made possible by climate change. Her approach, based on observation and dialogue with local communities, questions how societies adapt to crises and conflicts, and how individuals develop strategies to face them.

Through her works, which navigate between documentary and fiction, Elena Mazzi explores the relationships between spaces, flows, and societies. Her perspective highlights the complexity of infrastructures and networks connecting the world, offering a sensitive and thoughtful reading of the interactions between territories and populations.
