IN THE EYES OF: Florencia Rojas - EP 14
Discover Florencia Rojas in this new episode of our series In The Eyes Of.
The Argentine-Spanish visual artist, currently in residence in Athens as part of the Mediterranean Crossed Residency Programme, continues her research on sex work in the industrial neighborhood of Metaxourgio. Her practice combines visual exploration and research, focusing on visibility, migration, and the politics of memory and repression.
In Athens, Florencia observes the hidden spaces where sex work takes place, curtained windows, small neon signs, and silent streets, and engages with sex workers and local archives. Her approach highlights the strategies of survival, acts of resistance, and community networks that emerge in these marginalized spaces.
Through her works, which mix documentation and speculative reconstruction, Florencia Rojas explores the traces that sex work has left over time. By centering the voices and rights of sex workers, her perspective offers a nuanced understanding of spaces shaped by stigma, while transforming difficult realities into artistic gestures of reflection and inquiry.
"IN THE EYES OF” is a series of interviews with artists participating in the Art Explora Crossed residency programme around the Mediterranean as part of the Art Explora Festival. This programme series of artistic residencies, initiated by Art Explora Foundation and The Island Club, invites artists from the Mediterranean basin to reside and create for a month in one of the itinerant cities. Supported by programme Europe Créative, this project aims to support contemporary creation from a transdisciplinary perspective, and to create a solid, interdependent network of cultural partners throughout the region. Produced by PROJETS MEDIA in partnership with Art Explora Festival.
