Discover Mohamad Abdouni in this new episode of our series In The Eyes Of, and step into a residency shaped by introspection and memory.

An artist whose work has long explored archives and overlooked queer histories, Mohamad Abdouni chose to slow down in Athens. At first, the intention was simple: to spend a month with his negatives, his films, and the images accumulated over time, returning to the raw material of his own story.

Very quickly, the process became more intimate. While going through the archives on his iPhone, he found himself confronting old photographs and fragments of life that resurfaced buried emotions. A present but necessary pain. The residency revealed that this confrontation was also a sign of motivation, a desire to better understand his own history.

Faced with images he feared losing, he chose to draw them. A simple gesture to preserve them differently. Drawing became a tool of preservation, a way to relive the past while transforming it. The archive was no longer just a subject of work; it became a space of introspection, a territory where the possibility of moving forward could be reimagined.
