Immerse yourself in the world of Kristina Borg in this new episode of our series “In The Eyes Of.” The Maltese artist develops a socially engaged and participatory artistic practice based on conversation, walking, and immersion in the local context. Her approach, which is not oriented toward the creation of a final object, is built around the place and its social, historical, and political dimensions.

In Rijeka, where she is in residence as part of programme Art Explora programme , she explores the links between water, movement, and women. By observing the way water flows through and envelops bodies, she questions its nourishing and protective function, as well as the idea of adaptability often associated with women. This fluidity becomes a means of questioning what it really means to "adapt" and what is at stake when one chooses not to conform to a patriarchal system.

To understand the city, Kristina chose to follow the water: sea, canals, rivers, underground springs, and mountain streams. These flows reveal a city where water is omnipresent but sometimes difficult to access, almost forbidden. On small, secluded beaches, she finds a space to observe colors and movements and reflect with the water. Here, an essential idea resonates: we are water, and it is water that brings us back to our origins.
