IN THE EYES OF: Zeineb Henchiri - EP. 10

Immerse yourself in the world of Zeineb Henchiri in this new episode of our series “In The Eyes Of,” where memory, silence, and imagination weave narratives on the border of reality. A Tunisian artist originally from the island of Djerba, Zeineb explores the fragile boundaries between fiction and reality, notably through the invention of characters and a particular attention to the unconscious.

In Tirana, where she was in residence as part of the programme Through cross-residencies at the Art Explora Festival, she explores forms of confinement, both internal and external, through the striking presence of Albania's 170,000 bunkers. Never used, but still standing, these concrete blocks are the silent vestiges of the former dictator's paranoia and become the starting point for a reflection on fear, history, and what we inherit without always knowing it.

Vila 31 itself becomes a theatrical space, a set inhabited by fictional figures, unfinished narratives, and suspended gestures. Zeineb transforms the space into a stage, blurring the lines between reality and invention, between memory and forgetting. Through her practice, she invites us to pay attention to these liminal spaces: between borders, between eras, between what we think we know and what we prefer to keep silent about.
