IN THE EYES OF: SOFIANE BYARI - EP. 7
Discover Sofiane Byari in this new episode of our "In The Eyes Of" series, as he explores the dynamics of migration between Morocco and Spain through art and craft.
A multidisciplinary artist, Sofiane Byari uses his everyday environment as the raw material for his creations. Between recovery, transformation and misappropriation, he collects objects in the street, giving them a second life through hybrid sculptures and installations. His work moves away from conventional exhibition settings to take root in public spaces, where life is in full swing.
In Malaga, he welcomes us to his "zouia", his improvised temple. This space becomes the focal point of a project that questions migration and exchanges between the two shores of the Mediterranean. Using found materials, he builds a raft, a powerful symbol of the crossing, but also of movement in both directions. It's neither just a departure, nor just an arrival, but a possibility of going back and forth, an open dialogue between cultures and territories.
In his performative interventions, he invites passers-by to interact, to rethink the spaces they occupy, to become aware of the trajectories that run through them. His raft, more than a boat, is a metaphor: for art in motion, for an indestructible link between here and elsewhere, for a means of reinventing the way we inhabit the world.

IN THE EYES OF: THEO PRODROMIDIS - EP. 6
Discover Theo Prodromidis in this 6th episode of our "In The Eyes Of" series, as he explores the links between sound and social commitment in Andalusia.
Greek-born artist and filmmaker Theo Prodromidis questions notions of belonging and territory through his work. His approach is based on listening: to cities, to the voices and stories that weave the identity of a place. In Andalusia, he records the sounds of everyday life, capturing the resonance of urban spaces and the traces left by those who inhabit them.
Her project is rooted in encounters with individuals and collectives engaged in the fight against poor housing and precariousness. Notes, sound fragments and everyday objects become witnesses to a struggle, markers of a resistance where the intimate meets the political. By collecting these elements, Théo Prodromidis builds a sensitive cartography of social realities, offering a new way of inhabiting and thinking about the city.
For him, listening to the city also means reflecting on how we listen to each other. Behind these sounds, a question emerges: how can we overcome differences by highlighting similarities?
In a context where finding a home is becoming a challenge, these recordings are much more than souvenirs, they are a way of reclaiming a territory, transforming the ephemeral into the permanent, and making listening an act of solidarity.
An invitation to hear the world differently.

Collaborative mural: Limassol
During the Art Explora Festival in Limassol, from October 25 to November 4, we had the opportunity to continue the collaborative mural on the Mediterranean that was started in Rijeka.
Together, your contributions formed a vibrant fresco celebrating the richness and diversity of Mediterranean identities. Your drawings brought the festival's themes to life, highlighting a shared heritage, shared creativity, and bonds that transcend borders.
This traveling mural had just made its way from Rijeka, where the festival’s Croatian audience added their own small artworks, which are featured in the logbook. Go check them out too!
We asked you what the Mediterranean means to you, and here is a selection of your best artworks! Thank you to everyone who shared their drawings.

Collaborative mural : Rijeka
During the Art Explora Festival in Rijeka, from September 12 to 20, we invited you to draw what the Mediterranean means to you, and you responded with incredible creativity. Food, boats, horizons, family memories... each drawing revealed a personal link with our shared culture.
Together, your contributions have formed a vibrant mural celebrating the richness and diversity of Mediterranean identities, bringing the festival's themes to life through a shared heritage and connections that transcend borders.
The traveling mural then continued its journey to Cyprus, where new participants added their own perspective. You can also discover their drawings in the logbook, and the fresco will continue to grow during our next stopovers.
Take a moment to rediscover some of your best artwork. Thanks to everyone who shared their drawings!

IN THE EYES OF: JUAN GALLEGO BENOT AND CARMEN YRUELA BAENA - EP.5
Discover Juan Gallego Benot and Carmen Yruela Baena in this 5th episode of our "In The Eyes Of" series, as they explore the links between poetry, music and memory in Tangier.
Juan Gallego Benot is a poet and researcher. His academic reflection focuses on rhetoric and modernity, questioning forms of narrative and their impact on our perception of the world. In Tangier, he questions migration dynamics and identity tensions through poetry, a medium in which language becomes a space for resonance and confrontation.
Flamenco singer Carmen Yruela Baena brings Juan's writings to life. Her interpretation breathes new life into the texts, infusing them with the vibrant intonations of flamenco, an art with mixed roots. Together, they weave a dialogue where poetry mingles with sound, where the voice becomes an instrument of memory.
Both originally from Andalusia, the history of flamenco is revealed in the course of their research as a prism through which they observe colonial legacies and migratory trajectories between Spain and Morocco. Rhythms and melodies bear traces of shifting identities, crossed borders and shared narratives.
A work that invites us to rethink cultural identity as a polyphonic echo in constant reinvention.

IN THE EYES OF: MARIA VARELA - EP.4
Discover the artist Maria Varela in this 4th episode of our ‘In The Eyes Of’ series, and immerse yourself in her experience of a residency in Tangier, Morocco.
Originally from Athens, interdisciplinary artist and teacher of applied arts at the University of Northern Macedonia, Maria Varela explores the links between technology, handicraft and collective memory.
During her residency in Tangiers, she took an interest in local textile know-how and its ability to transmit narratives. Her work questions handicraft and its role as a medium of emancipation, interrogating the relationship between female creators, traditions and the traces left in time. Her apprenticeship in local weaving with Moroccan designers has given her an insight into the notions of memory, the instrumentalisation of know-how and overproduction.
This research invites us to rethink the interaction between crafts and new forms of artistic expression.

It was a sensational and original experience. However, I wish it had lasted longer and offered more programs and activities. I also fell in love with the boat - it's brilliant! I'd love to see it drop anchor when it leaves, so I can admire the way it looks. All in all, I hope you've enjoyed the Moroccan public too, and that you'll consider coming back for more time and more programs, or even more ports of call in several of the Kingdom's port cities.

It was a great experience, and the volunteers were great to work with. My daughters really enjoyed traveling through time in virtual reality. It's a pity there isn't a helmet suitable for smaller children without a controller. My 6-year-old son was unable to enjoy it. Fortunately, the organizers were nice and kept an eye on him while I was able to experience the experience. Thanks for the experience, I hope it will be repeated.
